The Spanish Mediterranean is characterised by an almost infinite stretch of coastline, where you can enjoy the sun, sand and sea. Among all the possible destinations, the beaches of Guardamar del Segura on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, offer all you can expect of a perfect holiday destination.

The beaches in Guardamar

The 11 kilometre stretch of beaches in Guardamar offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the waters of the Mediterranean throughout the year. You can swim in temperatures of up to 26 degrees in mid-August and no lower than 18 degrees in winter.

Both untouched and urban beaches, four of which are Blue Flag, are scattered along the coastline in this region. And if you add 800 hectares of woodland and protected dunes into the equation, this spot at the mouth of the river Segura is a must-visit destination.

Babilonia Beach in Guardamar

Babilonia Beach in Guardamar owes its name to the little houses that run alongside it, small dwellings built when the town was starting to reap the benefits of its coastline during the summer months.

This stretch of sand located in an urban area extends for just over a kilometre. Not only does it offer the convenience of a location in an area with a wide range of hotels and restaurants, you’ll also find an area of dunes behind it. This makes it a truly special spot.

It’s easy to access, on foot, by car or by public transport and it offers all the services you’d expect in the summer season: Lifeguards, seawater foot washers as well as parasols and sun loungers.

In Reina Sofía park, which you’ll find behind the beach, you’ll be able to relax in the shade of its tall trees and enjoy the cool fountains, while you watch the swans and peacocks.

Central Beach in Guardamar

Central Beach in Guardamar boasts a Blue Flag and is one of the most popular beaches in the area. It’s an urban beach, bordered by a lovely promenade. Despite being a small beach, at around 500 metres long, it offers all the services you could need during the high season.

As well as lifeguards, foot washers and daily cleaning, you can rent sun loungers and parasols, which come in very handy in summertime when the sun is blazing. You can also cool down with a drink at a nearby beach bar.

Thanks to its urban location, it’s easy to get to by foot or by road. There is also an access ramp for people with disabilities.

Moncayo Beach in Guardamar

Another of the beaches that has been awarded a Blue Flag is the Moncayo Beach in Guardamar. It may be too far from the centre to get there on foot, but it has one of the finest locations thanks to its semi-urban position, which means you can benefit both from the services it offers as well as a spectacular natural environment.

Nearly two kilometres of fine, golden sand are bordered by dunes, giving this spot amazing views. You can enjoy the convenience of all the services you’d expect during the summer, like fountains for washing your feet, lifeguards, sun loungers and parasols.

It also offers a wheelchair-accessible walkway. Because of its location, this stretch of sand tends to be quieter than other spots such as Central Beach in Guardamar and Babilonia Beach in Guardamar. This, together with its location, makes it an ideal place to relax.

The nudist beach in Guardamar

If you are someone who likes nudist beaches, you can head to this spot near Alicante. Los Tusales Beach, Guardamar’s nudist beach, is located to the north of the mouth of the Segura river. It’s an isolated, unspoilt beach, around half a kilometre long.

Due to its out-of-town location, it’s not easy to get to unless you have a car. It doesn’t have any of the services on offer at the other beaches so there’s no lifeguards, sun loungers or restaurants nearby. But it’s exactly this that gives it its remote feel. Because of its location by the mouth of the Segura river, it’s advisable to check the water quality if you’re planning on taking a dip.
