In 2022, the favourite cities, in the province of Alicante, have been Guardamar, Alicante city and Santa Pola, according to this leading holiday rental company on the Costa Blanca.

Holy Week 2022 has been the first in two years without mobility or capacity restrictions after the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, which put the world of leisure and travel on pause.

Reservations registered by Fidalsa Rent, in this community in 2022 have shown a positive trend, closing this holiday period with a growth in reservations of 72% compared to 2021, made especially on the Costa Blanca, where the company concentrates its largest turnover.

The trend analysed by Fidalsa Rent demonstrates a change in travellers’ favourite destinations in the last four years. In 2022, the cities where the most reservations have been made are, in first place, the coastal city of Guardamar, followed by Alicante city and also coastal Santa Pola, all of them in the same province of Alicante.

Last year and in 2019, before the arrival of the coronavirus, the city of Alicante was number one. In fact, this destination represented 46% of Holy Week reservations in 2019 and 14% of them in 2021.

During the same period of 2022, it has been 18%. “To understand this data, it should be noted that consumer preferences have changed with the pandemic, preferring accommodation far from cities to city apartments,” highlights the company’s manager, Andrés Gomis.

Another piece of data extracted by Fidalsa Rent is that in 2022 the number of children per trip has doubled compared to 2019, which, as Gomis explains, “this means that parents travel more with their children or trust more in holiday rental when it comes to choosing their holiday destination.”

If we analyse the origin of the travellers, the majority are Spanish. In 2022, 40% of reservations were made by Spaniards, 8% by the British and 4% by Germans. In 2021, 59% were Spaniards, whilst in 2019 they represented 58%.

Holy Week 2022 has been key to the recovery of tourism and Gomis expresses that they are “satisfied with their level of reservations”. Although turnover is still 18% lower compared to the same period in 2019, the evolution of 2021 and 2022 has been very positive.

The year 2022 started with high inflation which has impacted the saving capacity of tourists, to which must be added the arrival of the omicron variant at Christmas and the war in Ukraine in March, which has increased prices due to energy shortages.
